  • FORMAT the labels and column widths as shown
    • Size the text to 8pts
    • Drag the Column Borders to approximate the sizes shown

2. Add DATA to rows 2 to 5
  • Go Shopping! Use Amazon.ca to ensure accurate CANADIAN prices and availability :^)
  • You can copy and paste webpage URLS into column C - try to use Canadian stores and prices
  • Format your data to 8pt, and adust column widths if necessary
  • Note: Column C DOESN'T need to "Wrap Text" - URLS are too long to show the whole thing

3. Create spreadsheet CALCULATIONS
  • Each CELL of a spreadsheet is like an individual calculator. Typing the EQUAL SIGN (=) activates the calculator functions of the cell.
  • Use the numeric keypad on your keyboard (on the right side) as if it were a real calculator, and you can work quickly and efficiently
  • There are SIMPLE calculations that are good, and REFERENTIAL calculations that are BETTER - try one of each:

1. SIMPLE (LITERAL) CALCULATIONS
  • In cell G2, type the following
    • = 3 * 14.99
    • hit enter
  • The cell behaves like a calculator, and should correctly display the result
  • You can format this calculation to 8pt

2. CELL REFERENCE CALCULATION
  • In cell H2, type the following
    • = G2 * .13
    • hit enter
  • The calculation takes whatever data is in cell G2 and multiplies it by 13% to yield the value of the tax
  • Go back to cell G2 and convert the calculation there to an appropriate CELL REFERENCE CALCULATION
  • Instead of TYPING in a cell reference, you can also CLICK on a cell to build it into a calculation. In cell I2, type the following
    • = (then click on the subtotal cell) + (then click on the tax cell)
    • hit the enter key
Note - if your calculation is getting "polluted" with cell references, HIT ESCAPE

  • Complete the calculations for each of the rows in your wishlist

4. Create a TOTAL BILL calculation
  • After the LAST ROW of your wishlist, create a LABEL in column A called "GRAND TOTAL"
  • In Column I of the grand total row, Create a calculation that adds up all the data in the cells above

5. Create a TOTAL BILL "FORMULA"
  • Find a free cell under the total column, and type = SUM ( (then click and drag a range of all totals) )
    NOTE: Don't forget the brackets!
  • hit enter

6. Look under the FORMAT menu for ways to make the appearance of labels and values more appropriate
  • Currency should have two decimal places
  • Totals should have dollar signs

7. SUBMIT YOUR ASSIGNMENT - FOR MARKS!
  • Be sure your spreadsheet WORKS, and conforms to all the requirements above
  • Format your spreadsheet so that it prints in LANDSCAPE format, and fits on one page - Print it for submission
    • File - Print
    • Choose Current Sheet, Size to Fit, Landscape and then PRINT
    • Choose to open the document in Adobe Reader,
      • CHECK BEFORE YOU PRINT - preview your work - be sure it will print as expected
      • If all looks good, you are authorized to kill another tree and print - but try to kill only one tree
  • Export your spreadsheet as an XLS file
    • Be sure the file is named appropriately (starting with your lastname)
    • Use File - Export - XLS and save it to your H: drive
    • COPY (right-click) the file and submit it to the appropriate HANDINS folder using (right-click) PASTE
